From MSNBC, regarding the protests in China around new Japanese history text books that downplay Japanese actions in WW II:
Japan summons Chinese envoy
Japanese Foreign Minister Nobutaka Machimura also summoned China’s ambassador on Sunday to lodge a protest and demand an apology and compensation for damages.
This guy is incredible. Japan devastates most of Asia, massacres and tortures millions, and then systematically refuses to acknowledge their crimes, and this guy wants an apology and reparations for a few windows? That's rich.

This is really about Japan changing its role to be Political and Military power, not just an Econimic power. This is not about Asia's past; it is about Asia's future. All that textbook stuff is just propaganda.
Posted by: jeffdav at April 20, 2005 01:12 PMYou guys are probably right, but that's not my point. I was mostly pointing out how ridiculous it was for a Japanese gov't official to be asking for damages for a few shop windows after destroying most of Asia.
